Kalvin Phillips shares text Leeds United captain Liam Cooper sent him after England win v Croatia

Liam Cooper has text Kalvin Phillips saying he hopes he doesn’t play too well when Scotland face England on Friday, the Leeds United midfielder has revealed.

Gareth Southgate’s side could win qualification to the knock-out stages of Euro 2020 by beating Scotland when they take on the Three Lions at Wembley.

After beating Croatia 1-0 on Sunday in their first match, England are in a strong position in their group.

Leeds star Phillips was the man of the match in that win and speaking on BBC One’s coverage of the Netherlands versus Austria, he shared what Cooper text him about the upcoming match between England and Scotland.

Phillips said: “Liam text me after the game [against Croatia], actually. He said, ‘Kalvin, you’re a joke and I hope you don’t play that well on Friday’.”

More of the same from Kalvin, please

Sorry, Coops. We love you but we really want to see you lose on Friday night.

We’re 100 per cent behind England going into this match at Wembley with qualification to the knock-out stages in sight.

Scotland were very poor in their opening match when they lost 2-0 to the Czech Republic with their defence being all over the place.

It remains to be seen how Steve Clarke will change things up – or whether he will at all – ahead of Scotland’s match against England but based on what we’ve seen already, it shouldn’t be a difficult game for Southgate and his men.

That’d be even more true if Phillips plays the way he did against Croatia.

He was phenomenal at Wembley at the weekend.

Not only did Phillips assist the goal but he was also vital at stopping Croatia dead in their tracks when they attacked while he also offered the Three Lions an outlet going forward.

He played in a far more advanced role for England than he does at Leeds but clearly, he knows what he’s doing.
