Kalvin Phillips shares instant reaction as Ben White called up to England squad
Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips was clearly left thrilled on Monday as Ben White was called up to the England squad.
The former Elland Road loanee and Brighton defender will stay with the Yorkshire Pirlo, as he replaces Trent Alexander-Arnold for the EUROs.
Gareth Southgate started both White and Phillips in the 1-0 win over Romania, and both will be pushing to start against Croatia next Sunday.
Phillips was the star of the show in the latest press conference with Southgate and made it clear that he has been telling White to believe he can make the squad all week.
After the news was confirmed on Monday morning, the Leeds star instantly shared his reaction as White was handed the biggest opportunity of his career.
Posting on his personal Instagram account, Phillips simply left a heart emoji as one of his closest friends was given the chance.
White and Phillips have been two of the fastest progressing homegrown players.
Over the past two or three seasons, Marcelo Bielsa has transformed both, especially Phillips, and he certainly helped get White to the position he is in right now.
Brighton definitely can thank Leeds for what they have done with that magical loan spell, and there will always be that close connection between the club and the player.
We can’t wait to watch one of our own smash the major tournament this summer, and with White there now too, it is just like having two of our own.
This should help Phillips perform even better, having close mates within the squad and taking off the shackles as it will feel like home.
Bring it on.
