Of course such a comment from Phillips has got Leeds fans thinking of what could have been this season if their former midfielder never left for Manchester City.
Perhaps he could have made a return to Elland Road this summer, but that is now definitely out of the question following the club’s relegation to the Championship.
The Whites will find it hard to recruit such talented players in the upcoming transfer window given their current predicament.
But hope can be taken regarding the youngsters at the club, including Gray, who could play a prominent role in the first team next season.
Leeds is in his blood, and he may just represent the kind of passionate player needed to help the Whites immediately bounce back to the Premier League next season.
Whoever is in charge in the dugout and indeed in charge of transfers have a lot of work to do in the summer, but is welcome news that such a talented youngster will be ready and waiting to make his mark properly in senior football.
In other Leeds United news, one football finance expert believes an announcement regarding a Whites takeover is close, with owner Andrea Radrizzani rumoured to be buying Sampdoria.
