Kalvin Phillips sends message to Leeds fans after major blow, Hadi Sacko responds

Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips is “heartbroken” after being ruled out of the rest of the season with a knee injury.

Phillips, 24, is not only the stand-out player at Elland Road but in the whole Championship as Marcelo Bielsa now has to plan for the final three games without the future England international.

The Leeds-born ace took to social media after Bielsa revealed the injury blow on Tuesday, sending a clear message to the club’s supporters.

“Heartbroken I will be missing the last three games of the season,” Phillips wrote on his personal Instagram account.

“Anyone that knows me knows it’s killed me that this unfortunate injury has happened and I am beyond gutted I can’t help the lads at such an important time on the pitch but I will make sure I’m there for everyone off the pitch!”

“Still three massive games to go and we will need everyone to get to our goal.

“And for the majority of Leeds fans I can assure you I will be a nervous wreck watching just like the rest of you guys!”

As well as fans replying the Phillips’ post, players past and present also reacted to the news.

Among them was former Whites winger Hadi Sacko, who is clearly gutted by Phillips’ setback back on his reply to the midfielder’s post.

Leeds’ record in the Championship without Phillips is a mixed one.

The 24-year-old has missed six games this season due to injuries and suspension but Leeds have won four of those.

Phillips’ absence was most notably felt in February when Bielsa’s side lost back-to-back games against Wigan and Nottingham Forest without the midfield mainstay.

He then returned in time to play against Brentford to put in what was one of his best displays for the Yorkshire giants.

If it wasn’t for a goalkeeping error by Kiko Casilla in that game, Leeds would have won at Griffin Park.

Phillips is such an important player for Leeds but it is proven that they can do fine without him.

And with promotion all but clinched, you would expect that whoever Bielsa puts out there to play in the final three matches, they will do enough to ensure there’s that capital ‘P’ next to Leeds in the Championship table.
