Kalvin Phillips sends Luke Ayling three-word message over Leeds United situation

Kalvin Phillips has sent Leeds United ace Luke Ayling a message following the club’s relegation to the Championship.

The Manchester City midfielder has consoled his former teammate after they dropped out of the top flight.

Leeds finished in 19th place in the Premier League, going down on the final day following a 4-1 loss to Tottenham.

“We let this club down,” Ayling posted on Instagram. “To the fans, I am sorry we couldn’t keep you in the Premier League!!

“All my attention now is to make sure we bounce back straight away! When we got promoted last time we did it without being able to celebrate with our great fans and now that’s what I look forward to and dream of doing!”

Phillips replied: “Love you man.”

Heartfelt message

Phillips clearly still has a lot of love for his former club, with the Manchester City midfielder definitely still adored by Leeds fans despite his exit to Pep Guardiola’s men.

Perhaps things could have been different for the Whites had they managed to keep hold of their star man for just one more season, but that was always going to be an impossible task given the interest in the midfielder.

The same can be said for star winger Raphinha, with the Whites really struggling to replace the duo, with that failure definitely part of the reason behind their struggles on the pitch this season.

Ayling is clearly distraught at having let the club’s fans down so badly this season, but their relegation had long been coming, with managerial trio Jesse Marsch, Javi Gracia and Sam Allardyce all witnessing first-hand just how many issues there are at the Elland Road outfit.
