Kalvin Phillips sends Insta message to Leeds teammate Roberts after Wembley clash, gets response
Kalvin Phillips has taken to Instagram to send a message to Leeds United teammate Tyler Roberts after the two faced each other at Wembley on Thursday.
The two Elland Road talents featured in England’s 3-0 win over Wales, with Phillips getting the better of his club colleague.
But the Three Lions ace didn’t waste the opportunity to leave his mark on Roberts, fouling the 21-year-old with a slightly cynical trip just as he was beginning to build up a head of steam in a promising attack.
Thankfully, the pair saw the amusing side of the incident.
Posting on his personal account, Phillips shared a photo of the the foul alongside the caption: “Nothing personal brother”, and a laughing emoji.
Roberts then responded to the post, replying: “Didn’t expect anything less bro”.
Mateusz Klich also weighed in on the conversation, adding: “I knew this was going to happen”.
Petty fouls aside, how great was it to see two of Leeds’ brightest young prospects squaring up against each other on the Wembley turf?
That kind of thing would have been all but unimaginable just a few short seasons ago, and it speaks volumes as to how far we’ve come that we also had players in action for the likes of Spain and Germany this week.
We’ve said it a million times, but Marcelo Bielsa deserves so much praise for the job he has done at Elland Road.
As for the foul itself, we have a sneaking suspicion that it was more than a little deliberate from Phillips.
He’s always wrong side of the scampering Roberts, and his effort to win the ball back is clumsy and a little late.
Still, it’s testament to how good Roberts’ run was, and we’re just glad that everybody saw the funny side of it.
In other Leeds United news, Kalvin Phillips has told this former Leeds player that he misses him.
