Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips has taken to Instagram to send a message to teammates Liam Cooper, Barry Douglas, and Stuart McKinstry.
The Scottish winger put pen to paper on a brand new three-year deal at Elland Road over the weekend, ensuring that he will stay at the club until at least 2023.
And the Whites used that announcement as a photo opportunity to take a snap of the teenager alongside their other two Scots – Cooper and Douglas.
Leeds then shared the post to their official Instagram account alongside an emoji of a Scotland flag.
Responding to that comment, Phillips replied: “Go on the boys!!!”
Douglas also replied: “Uncle Bash and Uncle Coops are very very proud!”
This is all a bit of a laugh, but there are a couple of really promising things we can take from this post.
Firstly, having top first team talents such as Douglas and Cooper involved in the signing process of a young player’s new contract shows a real togetherness in the squad and must be a real boost for a starlet like McKinstry.
That closeness between youth and experience makes it clear that there is an obtainable path to the first team, provided you work hard enough and are willing to accept Marcelo Bielsa’s methods.
Secondly, it’s really pleasing to see the club take such a proactive stance to their youth development.
Tying players like McKinstry down to long-term deals makes it clear that there is a plan in place for the future, and knowing that, it’s hard not to get excited about what the next five to 10 years holds for the Whites.
