Leeds ace Kalvin Phillips ready to snub Manchester United for Liverpool in the summer

Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips is ready to snub Manchester United for Liverpool in the summer, according to The Sun.

The 26-year-old is wanted by both Premier League giants after establishing himself as one of the best in the division and becoming a regular for England, but he does not want to move to the Theatre of Dreams due to their bitter rivalry with the Elland Road side.

However, The Sun claim while “Phillips is unwilling to upset Leeds fans and harm his status at the club by making a switch to Old Trafford, he believes they would, instead, be much more accepting of a move to Anfield if he looks to progress his career.”

Possibly?

Losing the influential midfielder to a Premier League rival is not something the fans are looking forward to, but it will be impossible to hold on to him if they get relegated.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side are set to be without Phillips till around February, according to The Telegraph, and failure to bring in a quality cover in January could have devastating consequences.

Leeds will be hoping to hold on to their top-flight status come May, but their academy graduate could still be open to leaving.

Six-time Champions League winners Liverpool play regularly in the competition and challenge for major silverware every season, but neither is happening at Elland Road right now, and Phillips would be tempted to play for such a team as it would take a while for his side to reach similar levels.

Not only will they offer him more wages than Leeds can match, the chance to play in Europe like most of his international teammates is something anybody would love, and holding on to him could prove difficult going forward.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites have mapped out plans to avoid relegation scrap as January transfer budget claim emerges.
