Kalvin Phillips reacts to unexpected Roy Hodgson footage ahead of Leeds United clash v Watford

Roy Hodgson may be 74-years-old for the Watford manager has Kalvin Phillips praying he’s not playing against Leeds United this weekend.

As Watford prepare to take on the Whites at Vicarage Road on Saturday, Hornets boss Hodgson has been showcasing his playmaker skills.

Watford’s official Twitter account has uploaded a video clip of the former England manager playing a beautiful pass into the penalty area for Joao Pedro to score in training.

Leeds and England midfielder Phillips was clearly in awe of Hodgson’s vision and technique and has joked that he hopes the veteran manager doesn’t put his boots on and take to the field this weekend.

“Praying that Roy’s not playing middle of the park on the weekend,” joked Phillips on his personal Twitter account on Wednesday [6 April].

“What a guy and what a ball, by the way.”

Love it

Hodgson hasn’t lost it, has he?

And the way that the Watford manager doesn’t react or celebrate his stunning assist suggests that he pulls off that kind of magic every single week in training.

It just goes to show that talent doesn’t really ever leave former players.

Hodgson’s playing career wasn’t really anything to write home about. He started off at Crystal Palace but never broke into their first-team and had spells at non-league clubs like Tonbridge and Maidstone United.

His managerial career has been superb though.

While a lot of people will point to his poor spells in charge of Liverpool and England, Hodgson is widely adored at clubs like Fulham, West Brom and Crystal Palace while he’s also had spells in charge of Inter Milan and Udinese.

He might be the oldest manager in the Premier League and he might not have had what’s seen as an attractive job for a long time.

But Hodgson is someone to respect and look up to and we’re glad that Phillips has taken time to react to that brilliant video clip of him on Twitter.

We wish Roy all the best. But we also wish he loses this weekend.
