Kalvin Phillips reacts on Instagram as Leif Davis leaves Leeds for Bournemouth on loan

Leeds United full-back Leif Davis has joined Championship side Bournemouth on an initial season-long loan with a view to a permanent transfer.

The 21-year-old has made 15 first-team appearances since joining the Whites from Morecambe in the summer of 2018, with six coming last term.

Davis will now hope to play a big role as the Cherries look to return to the Premier League after last season’s heartbreak in the promotion play-offs.

Leeds midfielder Kalvin Phillips has reacted to the youngster’s Elland Road exit, taking to his personal Instagram account to send his best wishes.

“Good luck, brother. Go shine,” said Phillips.

A potential loss?

Davis is highly rated, and the versatile defender would be more than eager to prove himself under manager Scott Parker at Bournemouth.

We do not know exactly the talks that were held behind the scenes, but it appears that the youngster was not keen on his first-team chances at Elland Road.

The left-back cum centre-back featured regularly for our under-23s, playing a huge role as they won the Professional Development League in 2019-20 and the Premier League 2 Division 2 title last term.

We would have loved to see Davis remain with Leeds and prove himself to head coach Marcelo Bielsa, but the feeling is that we have already seen the last of him in the Whites jersey.

Parker is a manager that has been credited with helping youngsters to develop, and hopefully, he would get the best out of the young defender.

The arrival of Junior Firpo from Barcelona most likely played a big role in the decision, but the fact that Bournemouth have an option to make the move permanent means Leeds were keen to let go.

We can only hope we do not end up regretting it if Davis becomes a Premier League star in the near future.
