Kalvin Phillips reacts as Illan Meslier signs new Leeds deal
Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier has signed a new long-term deal that keeps him at Elland Road until the summer of 2026.
The 21-year-old Frenchman proved his worth in the Premier League last season, helping the Whites finish comfortably in the top-half of the table.
Meslier will now look to further establish himself as one of the best goalies in the top-flight, and he has taken to his personal Instagram account to post about his new deal.
Leeds midfielder Kalvin Phillips is pleased with the development and has reacted thus on Instagram.
Top player
Not many goalkeepers become first-choice at such a young age, and we have to admit that Meslier has blown us completely away.
He has grown in leaps and bounds two years after joining from Lorient, keeping 11 clean sheets and making 140 saves in 35 Premier League appearances last term.
Leeds head coach Marcelo Bielsa took a risk when he decided to hand such a young player the chance to be his number 1 in the Premier League, and he has not regretted it.
Meslier was snapped up from a second-division team, and the Whites’ brilliant transfer move has yielded another great result.
While he still has a lot of learning to do, the Frenchman does not in anyway look like a rookie, and director of football Victor Orta deserves plaudits for discovering this gem of a signing.
The Leeds ace will only continue to get better, and he definitely has a bright future ahead of him for both club and country.
