Kalvin Phillips reacts as Adam Forshaw extends Leeds United stay

Kalvin Phillips has taken to his personal Instagram account to react after Leeds United confirmed that Adam Forshaw has signed a new deal.

The 30-year-old midfielder had just until the end of the current campaign before his contract expired, but he has signed a one-year extension that keeps him at Elland Road until the summer of 2023.

The Whites also hold an option within the new contract to extend it by a further 12 months, and Phillips is thrilled by this development.

The Leeds midfielder said: “What a guy!

“So happy for you, man.”

Fully deserved

Not many saw Forshaw coming back from his injury hell and establishing himself in Marcelo Bielsa’s starting XI, but that is exactly what he has done, and the new deal is a reward for the hard work and top performances he has put in of recent.

The former Everton man has featured in 15 games across all competitions this term after missing the whole of 2020-21 and featuring in just seven league games in 2019-20.

Leeds were unable to call on Forshaw for almost two years due to a hip injury, but he is now proving himself at the top level after missing out on their promotion campaign and first season back in the top-flight.

Understandably, Phillips is happy for his teammate after watching him go through everything over the last two seasons.

Both were Bielsa’s preferred midfield partnership in the XI before his injury, and he will be looking forward to quickly returning to action.

They still have more months to play together, and while not many will expect him to break into Gareth Southgate’s England squad, Forshaw will be working hard towards it.

From what we have witnessed in recent months, nothing is impossible for the Leeds midfielder.
