Kalvin Phillips posts Instagram message after Leeds win v Boro, Ronaldo Vieira responds
Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips has posted an Instagram message praising the fans and his teammates after the 1-0 win against Middlesbrough on Wednesday.
The Whites maintained their five-point gap to third-placed Fulham after Mateusz Klich scored his fourth goal of the season – three of those against Boro.
Phillips was missing entirely from the matchday squad but still emerged onto the pitch at the end of the game to celebrate with the travelling support.
Phillips posted a series of photos onto his personal Instagram account after the game and was clearly delighted with the three points in his absence.
“Some team! Some fans! Some result!” he wrote as the caption.
Ronaldo Vieira came through the ranks with Phillips at Thorp Arch and recently left the club to join Italian side Sampdoria. He obviously still keeps an eye over proceedings in West Yorkshire and also acknowledged Luke Ayling and Mateusz Klich when responding to his post.
Vieira would have been a solid replacement for Phillips in his absence during the Boro game, but the midfielder never made it under Marcelo Bielsa.
His sale could have been mainly down the helping with financial fair play rulings, but there was no doubting that he would be a valuable squad player at Elland Road.
The 21-year-old hasn’t exactly been standing out in Serie A this season though, making 20 appearances and only completing 1.4 tackles per game according to WhoScored – compared to Phillips who has averaged double that amount.
