Kalvin Phillips may have bid farewell to Leeds United fans after 3-0 defeat v Chelsea – Journalist

Kalvin Phillips may have already bid farewell to Leeds United fans ahead of a potential summer exit, according to David Coverdale.

The Mail+ journalist has insisted that the Yorkshire Pirlo may have been saying goodbye after sticking around for two hours after kick-off to take photos and sign autographs.

Coverdale admitted it would be a sad end to the Leeds career of Phillips, who has gone through all of the ranks to become one of the biggest stars at Elland Road.

Writing in his latest column for Mail+, Coverdale shared his thoughts ahead of what could be a disastrous few weeks and months for Leeds.

“And another player increasingly likely to depart is Kalvin Phillips, who has also looked a lost figure since Marsch took control,” he wrote.

“The local lad was the last player to leave Elland Road following the chastening 3-0 defeat to Chelsea, posing for selfies with supporters up to two hours after the whistle had blown. Perhaps he was bidding those fans farewell.”

Lost.

It is clear that Jesse Marsch is just not getting the best out of some of our star men.

Marcelo Bielsa built his team around Phillips as that central man, and now that has changed, the Yorkshire Pirlo looks like a headless chicken at times with no real stability around him.

The same has happened to the likes of Raphinha, who has only scored once since his arrival at Elland Road in that away win at Watford.

With two games to go, Phillips has to rally those around him and make sure that we stay in the Premier League, then and only then will his future be discussed and decided.

Phillips certainly hasn’t bid farewell yet, for a start he will be the first name on the teamsheet against Brighton on Sunday afternoon [15 May].

The Leeds lad has already admitted he would love to sign a new contract and stay with his boyhood club, so if we do stay in the Premier League, we still expect that to happen.
