Kalvin Phillips in line to pocket millions from Leeds United summer exit

Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips could reportedly pocket millions if he’s sold this summer after the club get relegated.

According to the Daily Mail, there is a clause in his contract that’s triggered by relegation and would give the 26-year-old a percentage of any fee Leeds receive from his sale above his release clause.

That figure is believed to be in the region of £25million which will be activated if they finish 18th or lower.

A move away from Leeds benefits Phillips in more ways than one.

Not only will he not play in the Championship anymore, but will earn a big move to a bigger club and get better wages.

He will also pocket the bonus above and beyond the release clause which would be beneficial.

This could see the buying club try to negotiate a lower signing on bonus and it would be beneficial for them as well.

The next few weeks are imperative as it will shape not just this summer but the next few years for Leeds.

If along with Phillips, they lose the likes of Raphinha, Patrick Bamford and Illan Meslier, then the entire team that Marcelo Bielsa built will be dismantled.

Questions will then be asked of the hierarchy as getting out of the Championship is going to be a very tough ask without their key players.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites could look to sign a ‘Phenomenal’ attacking midfielder this summer as he’s already bid farewell to fans of his club.
