Kalvin Phillips holds all cards if Leeds United get relegated this season

Kalvin Phillips reportedly holds all cards over his future if Leeds United get relegated this season amid all the transfer interest.

According to Times journalist Jacque Talbot, moves to Newcastle and Manchester United are very much on the cards if Phillips is faced with the choice of playing in the Championship next season.

He believes that him changing agents is a sign of him pushing a move, which could happen in the case of relegation.

Speaking to Give Me Sport, Talbot said, “If relegation happens, Phillips holds all the cards.

“I think he has changed agencies recently and players often do that when they want to push through moves.

“I’d imagine, if Leeds go down, it’s almost certain that Phillips would go and I don’t think Leeds fans can really blame him because he’s an England international. He could go to Newcastle, maybe Manchester United, somewhere like that.”

Makes sense

Leeds fans cannot hold ill will against any player if they want to leave after relegation.

They did not sign up for playing Championship football – especially ones at the top of the wage structure.

Phillips will want to make the World Cup squad and if he’s not in the Premier League or a top division, the chances of that reduce.

He’s been Leeds United through and through and represented the club perfectly and has been the model professional.

There’s no denying that he would hate to leave, but sometimes players do need to think about their futures as well.

What happens from now until the end of August is anyone’s guess and we can only hope for the best.
