Kalvin Phillips among shoppers caught without face masks in store

Leeds United ace Kalvin Phillips was spotted with his face mask pulled down underneath his chin on Tuesday, according to the Daily Mail.

The 26-year-old is among 70 shoppers who were caught in Selfridges without wearing face masks yesterday (7 December), and those caught flouting the restrictions could be fined £200 for a first offence, which will double on each subsequent offence up to a maximum of £6,400.

Daily Mail claim they have approached Phillips for comment after publishing a picture of him and his girlfriend Ashleigh Behan, who also did not wear a face mask while shopping in the Oxford Street department store, on their website.

Not needed?

The newspaper admitted that people with certain medical conditions are exempt from wearing face coverings, but they do not know if Phillips or any of the people they have accused of flouting the government instructions did so for that very reason.

They are always going to find a way to get news, but they should be doing better and not drag the name of the Leeds star in the mud.

The England international is set to be out of action for the next two months after picking up a hamstring injury against Brentford on Sunday (5 December).

He could miss around 10 league games as a result, and the club will be hoping he returns to action sooner rather than later.

The Elland Road outfit will continue to monitor his recovery to determine a return date, and they will be hoping he has not gotten himself into trouble with the authorities after the Daily Mail’s story.

Phillips is just like the regular UK citizen, but he cannot afford to put his health and that of his Whites teammates at risk after the new Omicron variant was reported.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites have mapped out plans to avoid relegation scrap as January transfer budget claim emerges.
