Kalvin Phillips agent speaks out about Marcelo Bielsa exit from Leeds United amid speculation

Kalvin Phillips’ agent disagrees with Leeds United after Marcelo Bielsa was sacked by the Yorkshire club on Sunday.

Jonathan Woodgate has been quoted by LeedsLive saying that Leeds would have stayed up if they kept hold of Bielsa.

Jesse Marsch has since replaced the Argentine in the Elland Road hot seat

Phillips’ agent Kevin Sharp agrees with this view.

“Couldn’t agree more, Woody,” said Sharp via his personal Twitter account on 28 February in response to Woodgate’s quotes.

Impact on Phillips?

Bielsa’s exit is bound to have an effect on all walks of life at Leeds United.

Even if the Whites do manage to stay up this season, how badly is the change of management going to impact the likes of Phillips?

He’s been one of the best players – possibly the best player – during Bielsa’s reign and has understandably been linked with top clubs.

On Sunday night [27 February], the Daily Mail reported that Phillips’ deal with his Sharp is ending at the end of the season and other agencies are queuing up to land the England midfielder.

While Sharp is said to be confident of retaining his services, would it be that much of a shock to see Phillips want to leave as a result of Bielsa’s sacking and also find himself a new agent?

Phillips and Sharp have been loyal to one another for a long time now so we’re not expecting a change, it just seems to be something that’s on the cards in what could be a huge year for Phillips.

He’s been injured since December and will not want to suffer relegation back to the Championship with his boyhood club while he’ll also want to have one eye on making the World Cup squad later this year.
