Jurgen Klopp fires back at ridiculous claims on Leeds star Patrick Bamford
Jurgen Klopp has fired back at claims at the start of the season that Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford wasn’t good enough for the Premier League.
The Whites forward has been sensational since promotion back to the big time, scoring 14 goals and adding seven assists at Elland Road.
Klopp labelled Bamford as an “exceptional” player as they prepare to meet once again on Monday evening after that thriller on the opening day.
Speaking in his latest press conference which has been written out as a Q&A, Klopp had nothing but praise for the Whites talisman.
“Top player,” he said.
“I’m pretty sure before the season I heard on talkSPORT that people said, ‘Yeah, Leeds needs a proper goalscorer. Bamford is not good enough and stuff like this. And I’m so happy that he could all prove them wrong.
“He’s an exceptional player. The work rate is outstanding, and still playing the football he plays on top of that and scoring goals. That’s rare.”
Exceptional, indeed.
Bamford has been brilliant this season and has gone from supposedly not being good enough to in strong contention for the England squad for the EUROs.
Another goal against a big side like Liverpool would certainly help his cause massively, and unfortunately for Klopp, he will be raring to go after being sacrificed against Manchester City last time out.
This is very big praise from a Champions League and Premier League winner, and it is the least he deserves given his transformation this season.
Bamford will be raring to go out and prove himself after reading this, and we can thank Klopp for giving our main man all the confidence he needs going into this huge clash.
