Juniro Firpo ‘ridiculous’ after what he’s done at Leeds United
Junior Firpo was a key player for Leeds United as they won the Championship title and sealed Premier League promotion.
Daniel Farke’s team beat Plymouth Argyle in dramatic fashion in the final game of the regular season, as the left-back saw his teammates score a stoppage-time winner from the sidelines.
The Whites will now make plans for the upcoming transfer window, and the German manager will hope 49ers Enterprises back him.
Firpo’s contract at Elland Road expires in the coming weeks, and despite uncertainty around his future, the defender will be remembered for what he has done.

Firpo in Sky Sports Championship Team of the Season after some ridiculous displays
David Prutton has picked Firpo in his Championship Team of the Season at left-back.
The Sky Sports pundit was impressed with the Dominican Republic international, who often found himself in ridiculous positions this season, like getting on the end of Daniel James’ crosses into the box.
Competition | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
Championship | 32 | 4 | 10 |
Prutton lauded the 28-year-old for his goals and assists in the 2024/25 campaign, but questions whether the defender can do the same in the Premier League.
Speaking on Essential EFL (12 May), the Sky Sports pundit said: “The big question regarding Firpo is what he can do in the Premier League. But at the Championship level, the goals and assists, he manages to find himself in ridiculous positions. More often than not, we’ve seen James whipping the ball into him in the box.”
Farke will want Firpo contract extension at Leeds United
Barcelona have made an attempt to sign Firpo, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see the left-back opt for a return to the La Liga giants.
The 28-year-old joined the Whites from the Blaugrana in 2021 and was part of the squad that got relegated.
Now the Dominican Republic defender has helped the West Yorkshire outfit return to the Premier League after a two-year exile, but he may not be part of the squad next season.
If the ex-Real Betis star leaves, Farke will need defensive reinforcements at Leeds in the upcoming transfer window
Sam Byram has been Firpo’s backup at Elland Road over the last few months, but the Englishman’s contract also expires soon.
The 49ers already have several significant positions to strengthen next summer, with the addition of a first-choice goalkeeper seemingly necessary after Illan Meslier was dropped from the starting lineup.
A new reliable centre-back should also be signed by the West Yorkshire outfit, as Joe Rodon, Pascal Struijk and Ethan Ampadu aren’t enough.
What Firpo’s future holds remains to be seen, but fans will want him to extend his stay at the Peacocks.
