Junior Firpo torn to shreds despite Leeds United improvement, recruitment slammed by Sky Sports pundit

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United

Paul Robinson has slammed Junior Firpo despite the Leeds United defender’s form picking up under Javi Gracia in recent weeks.

The 26-year-old has been impressive under the Spaniard and has started Leeds’ last nine Premier League fixtures, registering an assist in the Whites’ 2-1 win over Nottingham Forest.

However, Robinson has suggested the former Barcelona man’s inconsistency means he’s not good enough for the Premier League.

“They have to look at that area in the summer, they got that recruitment wrong,” Robinson exclusively told MOT Leeds News.

“He’s too inconsistent. He’s been far better in recent weeks and his performances have improved but he’s far too inconsistent and defensively he lacks quality.

“Pascal Struijk is a lot more defensively sound but Firpo gives you a lot more going forward so I can see why the manager puts him in for that reason.

“I think they got that recruitment wrong in the summer. He’s been given numerous chances and I don’t think he’s good enough for the Premier League.”

Firpo will be looking to continue his impressive form when Leeds host Crystal Palace at Elland Road on Sunday afternoon (9 April).

A win for Gracia’s side will see Leeds leapfrog Palace in the league standings and move up to 12th position.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites will reportedly be without four first-team players for their Premier League clash against Crystal Palace this weekend.
