Junior Firpo ‘to sign new Leeds United contract’ after latest message

Leeds United fans might be about to receive another reason to celebrate courtesy of Junior Firpo.

The Whites fans were partying late into the night outside Elland Road on Monday (21 April) after their return to the Premier League was confirmed.

Leeds hammered Stoke 6-0 before Burnley defeated Sheffield United 2-1, making it impossible for the Blades to catch either of them before the season ends.

While the race for the title is going to go down to the wire, both Leeds and Burnley can rest knowing that their Premier League status is secure moving forward.

It’s something that supporters were buzzing about on Easter Monday, but the attention has now already turned to what the squad will look like for their return to the English top flight.

Firpo teases some positive news

Of course, fans are immediately speculating over potential signings and areas of the team that need to be strengthened, but Daniel Farke will also be concentrating on keeping as many of his current players as possible.

Firpo is one of those, as the former Barcelona star is out of contract at Elland Road in June, meaning he’s just weeks away from leaving the club.

Losing the ever-present full-back would be a genuine blow for the Whites due to how frequently he is used by Farke, as Firpo is a regular within the starting lineup.

However, the 28-year-old took to Instagram to tease signing a new contract and remaining at the club beyond this season.

He shared a picture on his story from his wife, with the caption, “Premier, here we come,” which most fans may think means he will be extending his stay in West Yorkshire moving forward.

Leeds United will now focus on winning the league

While Leeds are already in celebratory mode, the job is only half done for them, as Farke will want to go all the way and win the Championship now.

The Whites are top of the league as it stands with just two games remaining, but there is only goal difference between them and Burnley.

Leeds have a commanding plus-14 goal difference advantage, therefore, the only thing they need to do is win their final two games to wrap up the title.

Firpo could lift the title and sign a new deal in the next couple of weeks.
