Junior Firpo surely doomed as Leeds United stance made clear after contract decision
Leeds United are preparing a contract offer for Borussia Dortmund left-back Raphaël Guerreiro – and that could mean the end is nigh for Junior Firpo.
Firpo has endured a tough time at Elland Road since his arrival from Barcelona, with injuries and poor form really blighting the 26-year-old in the Premier League.
He has made just two appearances in the top flight in the 2022/23 season and has recently appeared for Leeds’ under-21s side in the EFL trophy. Things clearly aren’t going to plan for Firpo, with the left-back not trusted by Jesse Marsch.
Teamtalk report (6 November) that Victor Orta has prioritised Guerreiro as his number one left-back target in the January transfer window, with Marsch keen to bolster his options.
Pascal Struijk has been preferred ahead of Firpo this season and if another left-back enters the fray, then the writing will surely be on the wall for the 26-year-old.
If Marsch can land a January recruit then there’s every chance Leeds could look to offload the former Barcelona full-back in January or the summer window.
The Whites will be looking to have another active transfer window, with a striker also top of Marsch’s hit list as he looks to ease any relegation fears at Elland Road.
With the right personnel, Marsch’s methods do have some promise but at the moment there are some glaring holes in his squad which need to be addressed.
If Leeds can land a left-back and a proven goalscorer then fans will without a doubt be happy heading into the latter stages of the 2022/23 campaign.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites are set to jet out to Spain with a major decision being made behind the scenes at Elland Road.
