Junior Firpo still dealing with Leeds culture shock – Phil Hay

Leeds United defender Junior Firpo is still dealing with the culture shock of the move to Elland Road this summer.

Phil Hay was quizzed on the Spaniard this week and insisted that the intensity of the training blows the likes of Barcelona out of the water.

Firpo has nailed down his spot at left-back after a slow start and hasn’t exactly hit the ground running at Elland Road so far.

Speaking on the Phil Hay Show on Thursday evening, the journalist defended Firpo after leaving crisis club Barcelona over the summer.

“It’s pretty obvious that the training regime and the intensity of it all is completely different and a level up,” he said.

“Even though Barcelona are the club that they are or the club they were before this enormous crisis so it is a culture shock as it tends to be.”

Video, video, video.

It is all about repetition at Thorp Arch and Elland Road.

All of that starts with Victor Orta before any of the transfers are completed, with the Spaniard bringing along video presentations to show where players would fit in at Elland Road.

Completing the move doesn’t end that either, with Bielsa another who loves a presentation to show what has gone wrong and where each player can improve.

Give it time, and Firpo will start to benefit from these sessions dramatically and he can’t be judged before that happens.

In such a pressure position as a full-back at Leeds, it can’t be easy to settle in and Firpo will slowly start getting better and better.
