Junior Firpo sends two-word message as Leeds United ‘thank you’ post shared

Junior Firpo has given Leeds United teammate Ethan Ampadu a message of encouragement on social media after the Wales international shared a saddening Instagram post.

Ampadu posted [June 4] to share how “gutted” he and the club were to miss out on promotion to the Premier League following an agonising defeat to Southampton at Wembley, with Firpo sending a comment of comfort.

Leeds must now evaluate and rebuild their squad over the summer with several stars expected to leave Elland Road in the coming weeks.

Ampadu’s caption read: “We will be back. Gutted to end it like that but massive thank you for all your support this season. See you all next season.”

Firpo replied: “Love you,” followed by a heart emoji to his reflecting teammate.

Leeds United in squad reshuffle mission

Firpo and Ampadu are among those many expect to stay at Leeds United next season – particularly the latter Leeds hope, who played every single minute of 2023-24 in the Championship and in the play-offs.

There will however be interest in the duo, especially Ampadu – as Leeds navigate their finances to balance the books and be able to pay the club’s hefty owed transfer instalments.

Despite respite in the shape of the lucrative Red Bull deal at Elland Road, the club will be forced to sell a clutch of stars including some of this season’s big hitters – Crysencio Summerville and Wilfried Gnonto will depart, and Leeds will be touting several of their returning loanees to help bulk out the balance sheet.

The Whites will however be looking to hold onto teenage revelation Archie Gray, as well as consistent number one Illan Meslier and this season’s goal contribution machine, Georginio Rutter, among others.

In other Leeds news, one player from the club sustained an injury concern on international duty.
