Junior Firpo sends Mateo Joseph new message after Leeds United win v Sheffield United

Junior Fipro has sent Leeds United teammate Mateo Joseph a new message after what he did in the Whites’ win over Sheffield United.

Daniel Farke’s side returned from the international break with three points as they ran out 2-0 winners over the Blades on Friday (18 October) thanks to second-half goals from Pascal Struijk and Joseph.

The 21-year-old found the net having been introduced as a second-half substitute with an excellent finish from just inside the penalty area and Firpo was clearly left blown away by the forward’s performance.

Commenting on Joseph’s Instagram post on Saturday (19 October) the Whites left-back wrote: “Que jugador!” which is Spanish for “What a player!”

What happened to Mateo Joseph at Elland Road in Leeds United win v Sheffield United?

While Leeds United supporters were keen to see what Joseph could do this season, few would have expected the Spanish youth international to have this excellent a start to the campaign.

The 21-year-old has led the line excellently when called upon this term, showing maturity and strength well beyond his years.

While his finish on Friday night was excellent, the ability to hold off the defender first was just as crucial.

With the likes of Georginio Rutter and Crysencio Summerville departing Elland Road this summer, the Whites were going to need a new player to step up at the top end of the pitch to produce moments of magic and Joseph has been that man.

Not only do the supporters love him, but Firpo’s comment suggests that he is also a popular figure in the changing room. Having played at Barcelona, the left-back will know talent when he sees it and he seems to be impressed by Joseph.

Hopefully, Leeds can keep him at Elland Road for the foreseeable future as it feels like Farke could build his attack around the young striker for years to come yet.
