Junior Firpo reveals Leeds United have spent £150m on players in 2022/23
Leeds United defender Junior Firpo has been left stunned by the magnitude of the club’s spending power.
In an interview with the Catalan-based newspaper Sport [22 February], Firpo says that the Whites spent £150m on new players across two transfer windows in 2022-23, which shows the Premier League clubs’ “great” spending power.
Firpo has described the Premier League as “super advanced”, and that he is gradually adapting to the pace of the league, despite joining the Whites in 2021.

“I am increasingly adapting to the Premier [League],” said Firpo to Sport.
“This is a Super League. The capacity that the clubs have to sign [players] is very great. Between summer and winter we have spent £150m. This is a Super League, but super advanced.”
Progress
It’s interesting that Firpo has mentioned the massive amount the club have spent in 2022/23.
The summer transfer window was massive for the club. The club signed players like Brenden Aaronson, Luis Sinisterra, Tyler Adams, Rasmus Kristensen, Marc Roca, and Willy Gnonto as the squad needed a big change.
Firpo has failed to mention that Leeds also lost two important players last summer. Kalvin Phillips left the club to join Manchester City, while Raphinha moved to Barcelona.

Jesse Marsch was also backed in the January window, and he added players like Max Wober, Georginio Rutter and Weston McKennie, with the latter joining on a loan deal. Rutter became a club-record signing after he moved from Hoffenheim.
The club definitely have shown ambition in the market, but the results have been really poor. They have massively underperformed, and are once again battling to survive in the Premier League.
Firpo, who joined last summer from Barcelona, has barely featured due to injuries and at one point it looked like he could be sold in the January window.
In other Leeds United news, the club are now leading the race to sign an in-demand young attacking talent from a European giant.
