Junior Firpo move to Leeds United delayed due to transfer clauses

Leeds United will have to wait a little longer to sign Barcelona left-back Junior Firpo with the structure of payment yet to be agreed, according to Sport journalist Toni Juanmarti.

Writing via his personal Twitter account on Thursday night, Juanmarti reported that the 24-year-old’s move to Elland Road has been “delayed a few extra days due to the complex structure” with the payment.

He does add that the move is still expected to go through as it’s “pending official announcement”.

Nothing to worry about

If we have to wait a few more days for Firpo to officially become a Leeds United player then so be it.

We’ve waited a very long time for an out-and-out left-back so we can wait until next week or even the week after.

However, we don’t want the deal to become so protracted that Firpo misses out on vital time with Marcelo Bielsa’s coaching team at Thorp Arch because he needs to get up to speed with the tactics and fitness demands.

We’ve seen in recent years how Bielsa will take his time integrating new signings into his squad if he’s not 100 per cent sure they are capable of slotting in seamlessly.

We have no doubt Firpo will be able to get to that level as at the end of the day he’s going to be seen as the number one left-back choice.

However, we’d rather start the season with him in the side than see Stuart Dallas getting played there at left-back.

Again, we have no worries this deal will get done. It seems as though it’s simply a better of when and not if.
