Junior Firpo informed what’s holding him back at Leeds United
Junior Firpo must improve defensively against better opponents when he is fit for Leeds United, according to Jermaine Beckford.
Firpo has, for the most part, enjoyed a solid campaign for the Whites this year after a shaky beginning to his career at Elland Road.
The left-back was forced off through injury during the first half of Saturday’s win over Derby County [7 December], replaced by goalscorer Max Wober.
Speaking on LUTV, as quoted by LeedsUnited.News [8 December], Sky Sports pundit Beckford said: “He had a tricky start at Leeds, let’s not beat around the bush with that.
“But he’s grown into his position, grown into the role, the city, the club. We’re starting to see the best of him when we’re in possession.
“When he’s away with the national team, we know he can score. He’s got assists in the bag. He just needs to improve on defensive elements – every now and then he gets caught out by a quicker, trickier opponent.”
Junior Firpo has improved for Leeds United this season
After taking some intense criticism on the chin having initially struggled at Elland Road, Firpo has now come into his own.
The Dominican Republic international has been a strong performer for Daniel Farke’s side this season, though Leeds will now be rocked by his new injury concern.
Firpo took to social media to address and thank supporters after coming off just 20 minutes into Saturday’s win, which maintains the club at the top of the pile in the Championship.

It appears to be a hamstring injury for the 28-year-old, which will rule him out of Tuesday’s (10 December) game against Middlesbrough. As a result, Wober could feature as discourse ramps up on his own future.
Firpo remains in the final year of his current contract in West Yorkshire, and as it stands he can discuss a free transfer for the summer with other clubs from January.
In other Leeds news, the club could hand a “career-changing” European move to an MLS wonder.
