Junior Firpo in disbelief at Leeds United fans at Elland Road

Junior Firpo’s time at Leeds United has been plagued by injury but there is still one aspect the player is still amazed by at Elland Road.

The Dominican Republic international is currently out with yet another injury, which is all the more frustrating when he has only made three appearances this season.

In a new interview with Spanish press, the 27-year-old opened up about the love he still feels from the Leeds faithful despite his injury issues, and made specific reference to the loyal following last week as the Whites beat Swansea City 3-1 in horrendously freezing conditions.

Speaking to Relevo on Wednesday (6 December), he said: “I wanted to play there [Premier League], it’s the best league in the world.

“The Leeds dressing room is one of the best I’ve ever been to. Look, the other day: Wednesday, eight o’clock in the evening, -3 degrees, the vast majority would have to work the next day and Elland Road was packed. And we’ve just relegated, huh?”

Hear Elland Road roar

There is no doubt that Elland Road is home to one of the fiercest atmospheres in England, let alone the Championship. And any opposition team should be afraid of the home fans.

But at the opposite end, the roar of excitable home fans can have the important job of urging their team on. As the Whites continue to charge for promotion back to the Premier League, home fans will become more and more of a key part of Leeds’ season.

It is also incredible to see Firpo’s undying love for the club, with the player determined to get back into Daniel Farke’s squad and starting XI. Even despite the many injuries, Firpo still has the hunger and drive to play needed to come back from such a disappointing situation.

The player believes that he will cement his spot in the starting XI once again. And that belief is vital if he is to make it at somewhere like Leeds.

“Whether or not they put you on is the coach’s decision, but the goal is always to be available,” he explained.

It remains to be seen whether or not he can actually achieve that, with Sam Byram currently flying in the side and it may take another injury for that door to open up once again.
