Junior Firpo contract update emerges amid Leeds United injury blow

Daniel Farke says it’s “too early” to talk about Junior Firpo’s future at Leeds United.

The 28-year-old hasn’t had the best season so far after being hampered by injuries and suspensions throughout the campaign.

The left-back sees his contract at Elland Road expire in the summer meaning Daniel Farke will have a decision to make about whether his future lies with the club.

However, for now, this isn’t something on the boss’ mind as he said during his pre-match press conference [quoted via Leeds Live]: “No time to discuss this with so many games. There will be a moment to speak about this topic.

“He had a difficult start to life here. Developed fantastically. Taken on more responsibility.

“Much too early to speak about anything beyond the summer. Let’s focus on getting fit again.”

Junior Firpo could depart Leeds United

Although there is still a while to go until the summer, unless Firpo can impress in the second half of the season we could well see the left-back leave West Yorkshire this summer.

Unfortunately for the 28-year-old, he hasn’t had the best season so far and with another injury that will keep him out for up to four to six weeks, it puts him back even further when it comes to proving he can be an asset to his side.

It’s understandable why Farke isn’t keen on discussing these issues at this stage of the season with games coming thick and fast at the minute and the player not even fit.

However, it is up to the Dominican to secure his future now. When fit again, the defender will have one opportunity to fix his form going into the final months of the season and if he can do so, it could be enough to change the managers’ mind.

With that said, this is also a decision that could depend on the league in which the Whites find themselves in next season.

In other Leeds United news, Troy Deeney made a “huge” admission about Daniel Farke.
