Junior Firpo contract: Deadline Day update emerges at Leeds United
Junior Firpo is not close to signing a new contract at Leeds United, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.
The news outlet reports (2 February) that there has been no sign of a new deal for the left-back at Elland Road edging closer.
As things stand, the 28-year-old’s contract expires at the end of the season, and he’s free to speak with foreign clubs over a summer transfer already.
Leeds United to offer Junior Firpo new contract
The Whites need to keep a hold of their best players, and Firpo is certainly one of the better players at Daniel Farke’s disposal.
While the Elland Road faithful would like to see more consistency from the Dominican Republic international, his influence in the final third has been significant.
The Peacocks have relied heavily on the defender since his move from Barcelona in 2021, and he has made 17 appearances in the Championship this season.
It wouldn’t be surprising to see Firpo wanting a move away from the West Yorkshire club if they continue to remain in the second tier of English football.
Leeds are at the top of the Championship as they kept their place after resoundingly beating Cardiff City 7-0 on 1 February at home.

The Whites are one of the favourites to win automatic promotion to the Premier League this season, which could seemingly convince the left-back to extend his stay at Elland Road.
Sam Byram has been the Peacocks’ backup in Firpo’s absence, and while he has done relatively well, the former Barcelona ace is arguably a better option.
If Farke wants to ensure the West Yorkshire club remain competitive once they possibly get back into the English top flight, then keeping a hold of the 28-year-old should be a priority.
