Junior Firpo concern emerges at Leeds United amid latest development
Graham Smyth believes the rustiness of Junior Firpo is a concern for Leeds United.
The Yorkshire Evening Post journalist called Whites boss Daniel Farke telling him that rythym was an important factor in the full-back’s form.
Firpo missed three games through suspension before putting in a disjointed performance in last weekend’s defeat against Blackburn Rovers.
It emerged this week that Firpo is also a doubt the clash against Derby County on Saturday (7 December), and Smyth thinks Firpo not being in a run of games might be an issue.
Speaking on the Inside Elland Road Podcast (5 December), Smyth said: “A few too many players were below par [against Blackburn].
“Junior Firpo, that thing he said to me about the secret to his form had been rhythm and that he’d been playing every game, he gets suspended for three games, comes back and he’s so rusty.
“Now he’s an injury doubt for the Derby game, so that was a concern.”
Junior Firpo needs to refind his form for Leeds United
Prior to his three-game suspension, Firpo was one of Leeds’ best players and was pivotal in helping the Whites establish themselves as title contenders.
However, since his return from suspension, as Smyth mentioned, his form has left a lot to be desired and he looks to be a fraction of the player he showed at the start of the term.
Questions are already being asked about his future due to his contract expiring at the end of the season and if he doesn’t manage to get back to 100 per cent, it’s hard to see why Farke would sanction extending his contract.

The left-back’s last stint in the Premier League was extremely underwhelming with rumours already starting to go around that he might not be good enough to be a first-teamer for the West Yorkshire outfit if they do gain promotion.
Only time will tell what the future holds but if Firpo doesn’t buck his ideas up soon, things could end up turning sour for him at Leeds.
In other Leeds news, some “concern” about the future of Max Wober has been shared after his lack of game time this season.
