Leeds United defender Junior Firpo was ready to make his first Premier League start of the season against Manchester United if the game went ahead.
The Spaniard suffered an injury in pre-season and has yet to feature in any competition this season.
With doubts over the game against their arch rivals, he may have to wait slightly longer to make his first bow of the campaign.
Injury expert Ben Dinnery believes that his potential return date is 18 September – the day the Manchester United clash was scheduled to be.
Even Jesse Marsch spoke positively about the left-back at the start of the month.
He said, “Junior, Luke, and Liam, are all back. So, there are some decisions on exactly which guys are ready to go for the weekend, but they’re all training.”
Now that the game is not happening, and an international break next weekend, Firpo is likely to be in contention for the Aston Villa game on 2 October.
We’re expecting the Spaniard to start as he’ll have gotten a decent amount of training under his belt and may even play for the reserves in the build-up to that game.
This will be ideal to get his match fitness up to shape and hopefully, he puts in a good performance as Leeds do need an attacking presence to compliment Jack Harrison on the left.
Pascal Struijk has done decently in Firpo’s absence but he’s not an attacking player by nature so that side of the pitch has looked isolated on occasion.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites have reached an agreement to sign a left-back, according to his agent.
