Journo blown away by Crysencio Summerville in 3-1 Ajax defeat
Leeds United attacker Crysencio Summerville impressed LeedsLive journalist Joe Donnohue in the Under-23s’ 3-1 loss against Jong Ajax on Wednesday.
While it was billed as a game for the U-23s, the likes of Kalvin Phillips, Liam Cooper, Tyler Roberts, Adam Forshaw and Helder Costa all participated in the game.
Summerville, who was brought on for the second half, gave the Leeds side much-needed impetus going forward and kept the Ajax defenders on their toes with his relentless pressing for the remainder of the game.
The LeedsLive reporter, via his personal Twitter account, waxed the youngster’s lyrical.
He wrote, “All Crysencio Summerville this second half, he’s Leeds’ only threat. Greenwood feeds him in and the Dutchman forces a good save from the Ajax keeper.
“Crysencio Summerville nicks it off the last Ajax man, he plays it across to Jenkins who in turn finds Poveda.
“He’s composed, jinks past one in the box and then fires it over from 14 yards. Best LUFC chance.
“Feyenoord boy Summerville providing that impetus.”
Ready for the step up?
Summerville has impressed a great deal in this pre-season campaign for us and Marcelo Bielsa would certainly have been keeping an eye on his progress in the last few weeks.
Still only 19, the former Feyenoord winger plays with a real maturity and has the ability to turn the game on its head within minutes of his introduction.
The way he closes down the opposition and does so tirelessly, one might think he was tailor-made to be in a Bielsa side.
Should Helder Costa be sold this summer and no one comes in to replace him, Bielsa could consider introducing him to the first-team setup and give him a few games off the bench as he did with Ian Poveda last season.
