Journalist tips Joe Gelhardt for Leeds United exit after Mateo Joseph development

Joe Gelhardt is expected to leave Leeds United this summer after falling behind Mateo Joseph in the pecking order, according to LeedsLive.

Writing on their website (17 April), the news outlet reported that the young Spanish striker has jumped up the pecking order under Daniel Farke since the recent international break and is now vying for more regular game time.

Gelhardt has missed out on being in the matchday squad in recent weeks as a result and was in-demand in the January transfer window with clubs like Rangers and Celtic linked with a move.

And with just two Championship starts all season, Gelhardt is now likely to leave Elland Road this summer to play regular football elsewhere.

Leeds United to sell Joe Gelhardt this summer?

The attacking options in the squad at Elland Road this season have been a great strength of Daniel Farke’s and it’s been really difficult for Gelhardt to break in.

Crysencio Summerville, Daniel James, Wilfried Gnonto, Jaidon Anthony, Joel Piroe, Georginio Rutter, Patrick Bamford and now Joseph are all ahead of him in the pecking order, and when he has featured he’s struggled to make an impact.

It’s not a surprise that’s the case though, as all of those are better players than him currently and his lack of minutes make it difficult to get any sort of rhythm going.

But the youngster has been a model professional and not complained publicly while always being ready when called upon.

However, he’s now at an age where he needs to play regularly to get his career back on track and an exit makes the most sense for all parties this summer ahead of the new season.

In other Leeds news, the club have held talks with one player’s reps over a summer transfer to Elland Road.
