Journalist shares what Junior Firpo did after Leeds United defeat v Southampton at Elland Road
Junior Firpo was spotted walking down the tunnel as the Leeds United squad applauded the fans after the 2-1 defeat to Southampton, according to Adam Pope.
The Whites needed victory to keep their hopes of automatic promotion alive but were beaten at home, making it just one win in their last six as they head into the playoffs.
With the game marking the final home game of the regular season the fans did a lap of appreciation towards the fans after the full-time whistle, but Firpo didn’t applaud as Pope shared on his personal X account (4 May) that the left-back went down the tunnel alone.
“Firpo goes down the tunnel alone as the rest of the players applaud the remaining fans,” he wrote.
Leeds must look beyond Junior Firpo for Norwich clashes
The full-back positions have been an issue all season long for Leeds, and Firpo remains the only natural left-back option in the squad.
But after some poor form recently, and a shocker of a performance in the 2-1 defeat to Southampton, Daniel Farke surely needs to consider looking at alternative options for the playoffs.
The team have been struggling and things need to change because it’s insanity to keep doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.
The belief is that Firpo won’t be offered a new deal for next season anyway and could leave this summer, so the club may as well look at alternative options now. Byram is capable of playing there and should be considered.
The least Firpo could have done was applaud the fans for the support they have given him this season after a poor showing, but he couldn’t even do that. That’s just out of order.
