Journalist shares what he’s heard Harry Redknapp to Leeds United
Alex Crook has claimed Harry Redknapp has distanced himself from the vacant managerial position at Leeds United despite initially suggesting he would take the job in Yorkshire.
The Mirror has suggested (16 February) the Englishman would be willing to take the Elland Road job if he was approached by the board.
The talkSPORT journalist has since revealed that he has reached out to the former Pompey boss after the Leeds rumour broke.
“I reached out actually yesterday to Harry yesterday and said, ‘I heard a whisper that maybe you were willing to help Leeds. Can you shed any light on that,” said Crook (talkSPORT Breakfast, 07:85, 17 February)
“And he said, ‘Alex, at the moment, I have got all of my priority helping out Sandra.’ So that would be him distancing himself.”
Fun while it lasted
The reports of Redknapp coming out of retirement certainly raised a few eyebrows, but 99 per cent of people involved with Leeds would’ve known it was predominantly satire. If the board are to go down the route of hiring an experienced English manager, then there are potentially better options out there at present.
The decision to give Michael Skubala the role for the next two games has eased the pressure on the board ahead of what will be a crucial set of fixtures against Everton and Southampton. The players are used to the under-21s boss and the Whites probably have the best chance of three points with him in charge.
An experienced manager who knows the Premier League can certainly not be ruled out. Leeds Live journalist Beren Cross has claimed (Leeds Live Q&A, 17 February) that the board are contemplating a boss with prior Premier League experience as they seek to work out the best way of securing the club’s top-flight status.
