Journalist shares update on Max Wober ahead of Leeds United clash v West Ham United
New Leeds United signing Max Wober is reportedly likely to be in attendance at Elland Road when his side take on West Ham on 4 January.
According to LeedsLive journalist Beren Cross, the Austria international will not be featuring as he only signed for the Whites little over 24 hours before the game.
However, his arrival certainly means that one of Liam Cooper and Pascal Struijk are going to have to make way as he’s either going to start at left-back or centre-back when he eventually is put into the side by Jesse Marsch.
Via Twitter, Cross wrote, “Max Wober won’t be in the squad tonight, but that doesn’t mean he won’t have an impact on proceedings.
“Expect him to be at Elland Road and expect Struijk and Cooper to know they have a new fight on their hands.”
Gives the crowd a lift
New signings always give the crowd a lift and that’s precisely what Wober’s presence at Elland Road will do as he’s sure to be unveiled before the game.
The Whites fans have sat through the entire season without a proper left-back as Struijk has been deployed there and Junior Firpo has been massively underwhelming.
Wober’s arrival is very likely going to lead to Struijk moving back to left centre-back and we see him doing a much better job there.
Cooper, unfortunately, hasn’t been good enough and it’s time for the club to plan for life without him as he’s not Premier League level anymore.
Struijk’s a better ball carrier, stronger and is only going to get better while the Scotsman is on the other end of the scale and has his best days behind him.
Hopefully, the Whites’ January spending does not end here as a new striker is perhaps more important than a left-back and that needs to be done sooner rather than later.
