Journalist shares Leeds United issue amid attempt to ‘bring down’ Everton in £300m compensation claim

It might be a “stain” on the season of Leeds United if their bid to gain promotion back up to the Premier League is overshadowed by their legal case against Everton, according to Dean Jones.

Speaking to GiveMeSport on Wednesday (22 November), the former Eurosport journalist said there is “definitely caution to be had” for the Whites as they – alongside Leicester City and Burnley – aim to receive £300million split between them in compensation after the Toffees were found guilty of breaching the Premier League’s spending rules during seasons where those clubs were relegated.

Although he believes the legal battle could hinder the West Yorkshire club’s season after matters on the pitch have improved recently, he does understand the situation they currently find themselves in.

“I think there’s definitely some caution to be had here because things have turned around at Leeds recently and I think that the focus on things being better on the pitch has definitely improved every area of the football club,” said Jones.

“I think that if they were suddenly overshadowed by a big legal case where they’re trying to bring down Everton, it might just be a stain on the season rather than something that much good can come of. I say that, but I do still understand Leeds’ situation.”

It shouldn’t really be too much of an issue that has an impact on the managerial staff or the players as several of them weren’t involved in what happened to Leeds last season.

That is why Daniel Farke has declined to comment on the situation when he’s been asked about it recently after it all occurred before he joined the club in the summer.

It’s pretty clear that the Elland Road hierarchy are not going to back down from the issue and that they clearly feel they have a case to be answered following Everton’s recent points deduction for spending breaches.

The situation is probably likely to go on for some time, but there is no real reason why it should have any negative impact whatsoever on what happens on the pitch.

If anything, it could make the players even hungrier to help the club get back to where it belongs and achieve an immediate promotion back to the Premier League this season.
