Journalist shares if Leeds United will recall Charlie Cresswell from his loan spell in January

Leeds United are reportedly unlikely to recall defender Charlie Cresswell from his loan spell at Millwall in the January transfer window.

According to Sky Sports journalist Tim Thornton, despite having the option on the 20-year-old is likely to stay at the Den and fight for his first-team spot at Leeds next season.

The Whites have had some injury issues in defence with Luke Ayling and Liam Cooper only just returning to full fitness while Junior Firpo picked up yet another injury.

Thornton told Give Me Sport, “I think there’s a recall option, potentially in January.

“But I would expect him to stay at Millwall all season and then come back next season and try to force his way into the first team.”

Could change soon

Cresswell was surely sent out on loan to gain first-team experience and become a better player.

At his age, it’s essential for players to play as many minutes as possible at the senior level and he is doing that at Millwall.

However, things could change for Leeds if a couple of their defenders are out with long-term injuries close to the window or in January.

Last season, Cresswell was given his debut was because of the injuries to a number of first-team players and he showed that he was good enough.

He could be called into action again this season and we’re confident that he would go on to put in a shift when needed for Leeds.

Hopefully, they do not need to recall him but these things cannot be predicted in football so it remains to be seen what happens.
