Journalist moots Cody Drameh Leeds United exit after what happened recently

Cody Drameh could leave Leeds United on loan or even permanently in the January transfer after he played no role against Cardiff City in the FA Cup on 18 January.

According to Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Graham Smyth [23 January], the defender is unlikely to accept the game time he’s getting at the club.

He currently finds himself third in the pecking order of right-backs at the club, behind Luke Ayling and Rasmus Kristensen.

Smyth wrote, “His lack of involvement in the Cardiff City FA Cup replay was probably the writing on the wall, even if Drameh is being told that Leeds want him around and like him as a player.

“Drameh isn’t likely to accept the game time that being a third-string choice will bring and there are enough clubs interested in a loan to make something happen late on if he so chooses. At this stage it doesn’t seem as if a permanent move away will happen until the summer but, as ever, things can change.”

Poor decisions

Drameh is the future of the club and does have what it takes to grow into the role and become a first-team regular in the coming years.

However, given how the Whites are treating him, there’s no good reason why he would want to stay if he’s getting regular minutes elsewhere.

Previously, there were also links with Borussia Dortmund and that would be a move he considers even if he’s playing second fiddle there.

He would get exposure to European football and he would also challenge for trophies regularly, something that’s unlikely to happen at Elland Road.

It remains to be seen where he ends up before the end of the transfer window as time is clearly running out for the young defender.

Ideally, it would be better for the club if he stays, but their poor decisions will lead to a talented hot prospect leaving the club.
