Journalist makes Bamba Dieng-Leeds United joke as he scores for Senegal v Qatar
CBS Sports journalist Ben Jacobs made a Leeds United, Nice, Marseille joke as Bamba Dieng found the back of the net on 25 November.
Senegal went into the game against Qatar knowing that anything but a win will make their chances of qualification extremely difficult.
They delivered a performance that merited the three points and won 3-1 with Dieng scoring the final goal to ensure that the hosts’ fate was all but sealed.
Via Twitter, Jacobs wrote, “L̶e̶e̶d̶s̶’̶ ̶N̶i̶c̶e̶’̶s̶ Marseille’s Bamba Dieng has a World Cup goal.”
January move?
Things could have been a lot different had deadline day in the summer gone as per the wishes of Victor Orta and Andrea Radrizzani.
Everything was in place for Dieng to jet into the United Kingdom and pen a contract at Leeds and become the striker signing they desperately needed.
Instead, Nice decided to make a lot swoop for him and successfully convinced him to return to France, only for him to fail a medical.
It then became a bit of a joke for everyone as he ended back up at Marseille but Leeds do need a striker and should look at the Senegal international once again.
Doing punditry on the game for Sports 18, former Premier League defender Sol Campbell said [25/11, 15:10], “See the cut-back as well, that’s beautiful from Dieng.”
Leeds could do with someone as lethal in front of goal as Dieng and we would not be surprised if they look to pursue his services in January as well.
In other Leeds United news, a first-team defender may not have long left at Elland Road after “Awful” footage emerges from this month, making a January transfer imperative.
