Journalist: Leeds could target top-six PL defender on way out as possible White replacement
Should the worst happen this summer and Leeds United aren’t able to make Ben White’s switch a permanent one, Victor Orta will need to act quickly for a replacement.
With the strong possibility of Premier League coming to Elland Road next season, the director of football could have a bigger budget to play with.
Leeds Live journalist Tom Victor has claimed that the Whites could target Arsenal enforcer Konstantinos Mavropanos.
The Greek youngster is currently out on loan from the Emirates and could be on his way out permanently in the summer [Football London].
Victor claimed that the Whites could bring in Mavropanos after his drop down the pecking order in North London.
“The Greek U21 international hasn’t kicked on as hoped in north London and the arrival of William Saliba from Saint-Etienne will see Mavropanos pushed further back in the queue,” he wrote for Leeds Live.
“A permanent exit might still follow this summer, but it wouldn’t be the first time Leeds have taken someone who initially struggled with English football and gave them a path forward.”
It wouldn’t be the most inspiring of transfers to walk through the doors at Elland Road and Thorp Arch before, but he could quickly change the minds of fans with a string of solid performances.
The main priority will always be the future of White, and Andrea Radrizzani has confirmed that Leeds will be lodging an offer for the 22-year-old in the summer.
But, if that isn’t possible, how does the Greek youth international compare to the Brighton star youngster? The answer to that is very well [WhoScored].
Mavropanos completes more interceptions, clearances and blocks compared to White, who makes more tackles in each game.
Yes, the Arsenal man has only featured five times in Germany so he could be untested, but if he can replicate that form over an entire season, he could certainly be a replacement.
