Journalist: Junior Firpo unlikely to start for Leeds United v Leicester City
LeedsLive journalist Beren Cross suggests Marcelo Bielsa is unlikely to hand a start to Junior Firpo on Sunday when Leeds United host Leicester City.
Responding in his latest Q&A, Cross cannot see the Spaniard making his first start since October 2, which was also the last time Firpo featured for the first team.
“Based on Bielsa’s argument for leaving [Kalvin] Phillips out of the Wolves game, Firpo will surely have had too little time on the pitch in order to start against Leicester on Sunday,” Cross wrote.
Building back up
There’s a very good chance that the £12.8million [Sky Sports] summer signing from Barcelona could go 50 days without playing for the Leeds first team.
He played the full 90-plus minutes in their 1-0 win over Watford on October 2, the last game before the October international break.
However, after the resumption of club football, Firpo missed the first three games before playing some minutes in a Leeds Under-23 match.
It was expected that he would make the squad for Sunday’s trip to Norwich City but he was absent from that 2-1 victory in East Anglia.
After a win, Bielsa is likely to continue with Stuart Dallas at left-back and Firpo might have to make do with a place on the substitute bench.
If he does not make it onto the pitch, Firpo will have to wait until the November 21 trip to Tottenham Hotspur for his next first-team minutes as there is another international break next week.
