Journalist identifies 'perfect replacement' should worst happen in summer for Leeds

Journalist Simon Yaffe has claimed that Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara would be the perfect replacement for Leeds United mainstay Kalvin Phillips.

The Leeds Live journalist believes that with speculation surrounding the 24-year-old, Kamara could replace him if needed.

Kamara has been linked with a switch to Elland Road in the past year, with Aston Villa also keen on the Finland international.

Yaffe claimed that the midfielder could show his former side Arsenal what they’re missing out on should he move to West Yorkshire.

“With continued speculation over Kalvin Phillips’ future, Rangers central midfielder Kamara may be the perfect replacement if the fans’ favourite departs Elland Road,” he wrote for Leeds Live.

“If the Scottish giants receive a big enough offer, it may well prove enough to tempt Kamara back to English football and show Arsenal what they missed out on.”

This, obviously, all depends on whether Leeds can retain the services of Phillips in the summer. Should this season bring promotion to the Premier League, that is all but certain to happen.

Marcelo Bielsa would also likely remain in West Yorkshire, and Victor Orta could be given free reign to target players much bigger than Kamara, we can only wish.

Let’s assume the worst did happen though, could Kamara actually be a valid replacement for Phillips? He would have big boots to fill.

The Yorkshire Pirlo is the shield in front of the Leeds defence, putting his body on the line but having the ability to match when on the ball is key to his game. Phillips completes over 50 passes a game with 5.3 accurate long balls according to WhoScored – vital.
