‘I can see…’ – Journalist shares verdict on Leeds talent sealing loan exit to C’Ship club

Leeds United forward Sam Greenwood has been linked with a January loan move to a number of different Championship clubs.

Wales Online have reported that Cardiff have joined the likes of Bournemouth and Sheffield Wednesday in taking an interest in the striker.

The exciting talent has caught the eye at Thorp Arch since arriving from Arsenal, with the under-23s currently top of the Premier League 2.

Cardiff and Bournemouth are in different positions compared to Wednesday, who are rebuilding under Tony Pulis after starting the season on negative points.

Yorkshire Live journalist Dom Howson has cast doubt over the move for Greenwood though, claiming the Owls need more of a physical presence in the final third.

“I do know Wednesday are keeping a close eye on players who could be available for loan in the Premier League come January,” he wrote.

“I can see Pulis trying to sign a big, physical, aggressive centre-forward. They have lacked a focal point upfront since Steven Fletcher and Atdhe Nuhiu moved on.”

If there is one thing that Greenwood isn’t, it’s a big, physical and aggressive forward.

The young forward is perfect for Leeds’ style, and is quality in possession and thrives in this fast-paced attacking side who love to destroy opposing teams.

Sending him out on loan to someone like Wednesday or Cardiff could seriously harm his development, with both liking physical, long-ball tactics.

If anything, we would prefer Greenwood to stay at Elland Road with the under-23s, where he is closing in on being involved with the first-team.

Marcelo Bielsa is all-but-certain to use him and the likes of Joe Gelhardt against Crawley next month in the FA Cup.

That is a great opportunity for him to force his way into the Premier League squad, something far more attractive than a loan switch to Hillsborough.
