Josh Sargent injury verdict for Leeds United v Norwich second leg at Elland Road

Norwich will struggle to beat Leeds United at Elland Road if Josh Sargent misses the game with injury, according to Sky Sports journalist Sanny Rudravaljhala.

Writing on his personal X account (12 May), the reporter was reacting after the American striker hobbled off during the first leg clash at Carrow Road between the two sides which ended in a 0-0 stalemate.

The second leg is due to take place on Thursday night (16 May) but Sargent is now a doubt after being forced off, and Rudravajhala admits without him the Canaries will struggle to get a result at Elland Road despite a “turgid” first leg for both sides.

“If Josh Sargent isn’t fit for the second leg then I’d struggle to see Norwich beating Leeds,” he wrote.

“Then again, this has been pretty turgid hasn’t it!”

Advantage Leeds United in playoff semi-final vs Norwich

A 0-0 draw wasn’t ideal for either team after the first-leg, because it makes the second leg incredibly tight and essentially a one-off knockout game.

For Leeds they will be at Elland Road which gives them an advantage, but for every minute there are no goals scored it will make the atmosphere edgy and that will boost the Canaries.

Overall though, it’s the Whites who have the advantage in the second leg and with Sargent now a doubt for the game that only further cements that position.

The American has been a key player for David Wagner this season and without him they will lack that goal threat in attack.

Both teams will need to better than they were on Saturday 11 May to get the result they want and head to Wembley, but it’s Daniel Farke’s side who have the edge going into a huge game at Elland Road.
