Josh Galloway to move to Annan Athletic upon impending Leeds United exit

Leeds United talent has signed a pre-contract to move straight to Annan Athletic when he exits Elland Road, the Scottish club have announced.

The Whites confirmed the 20-year-old was set to be released upon the expiry of his contract at the end of the month on their website on Friday 10 June.

Now, three days later he has a new club to walk straight into in the form of the side from League Two north of the border.

In three years with United he only featured in Premier League 2, the EFL Cup and the FA Youth Cup, never making a senior appearance.

He spent the second half of the 2021/22 season on loan at FC United of Manchester, making the move the same day as he came on as a half-time substitute for the club from the English seventh tier.

After impressing as a member of the Carlisle United youth side he had earned himself a move to Thorp Arch but it ultimately proved to unsuccessful.

The Scottish youngster still has time on his side to rebuild a career that stuttered with the Whites, and will return to his native Scotland.

He is part of a group heading out of the club that includes Bobby Kamwa, Alfie Hughes, and first-team flop Laurens De Bock.

The retained list had a strong Scottish link already as Kamwa had spent the second of the recently-completed season on loan at Dunfermline, while the permanent transfer of Nohan Kennah to Hibernian was announced at the same time.

Galloway looked not to have a chance at Leeds for some time, having previously had trials at Barrow during 2021 without securing a move there.

A move to the Scottish fourth-tier is clearly a step down but offers him a chance to rebuild his career after his move to the then-Championship side United proved too much.

In other Leeds United news, a reportedly immanent summer arrival has been compared to the likes of Rodri and Toni Kroos by Guillem Balague.
