Jose Mourinho surely delivers fatal blow to Leeds United Sasa Lukic hopes

Leeds United have been looking into a move for Torino midfielder Sasa Lukic – and things had been looking good for the Whites up until the latest news to emerge out of Italy.

ForzaRoma reported (23 November) Leeds were leading the race for the 26-year-old with Jose Mourinho’s Roma unable to meet the £12.9million asking price for the midfielder. Furthermore, it’s understood the Serbian international is at a standstill with Torino over an extension on his current deal.

Initially, things seem to be looking good for Leeds, right? Unfortunately, Roma have come back into the equation on Wednesday (30 November). Calciomercato suggest the Serie A side have not given up hope of signing Lukic, with Mourinho now exploring a possible swap deal.

Marash Kumbulla is the name which has been thrown into the mix, with the 22-year-old defender only making three Serie A appearances so far for Roma in the 2022/23 season. Furthermore, Torino boss Ivan Jurić knows Kumbulla well and could well be keen on a reunion with the Albanian.

It’s believed Lukic will have a “direct confrontation” with the Torino board once he returns from the World Cup, with the 26-year-old eager to leave the club. It would not be a surprise to see Leeds yet again linked with the Serbian, but they may well find it difficult to lure him to the Premier League.

He’s most likely settled in Italy and probably content remaining in Serie A. Roma currently sit just outside the European places but certainly have a stronger chance of achieving European football than Leeds.

If Torino like the look of the potential swap deal, it could well be curtains for the Whites in their pursuit of Lukic.

In other Leeds United news, a first-team defender may not have long left at Elland Road after “Awful” footage emerges from this month, making a January transfer imperative.
